Star Testing
Clovis East High School is “Kicking It Into High Gear”
for the STAR Test!!
Students and staff at Clovis East have prepared all year long for the spring testing season. Those efforts will intensify in the upcoming weeks. On April 24th, 25th, and 26th, all Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors will be participating in the California Standardized Testing and Reporting Program (STAR). We will be starting school at 7:45 on testing days with all students reporting to their 2nd period teachers. Seniors will report to the East Gym for Senior meetings during this testing time.
Freshmen will be tested on reading, written expression, mathematics, and science. Sophomores and Juniors will be tested on reading, written expression, mathematics, science, and history/social science. Sophomores will have an additional testing day on May 1st for science.
Our theme for this year’s STAR is: “KICKING IT INTO HIGH GEAR FOR OUR DRIVE TO 835!” Clovis East’s goal is to attain an API score of 835! We are certain we can meet this goal with the focused efforts of ALL students. We are always pleased by the positive attitude exhibited by our students during testing time. Testing is a part of life (for college placement, college entrance, scholarships, job placement, promotion, graduate school, etc.) and all students should put their best effort forward every time they have the opportunity to test.
CEHS will again offer incentives to students who are present during testing and doing their personal best:
Attendance Lunch: Students who are present all three days of STAR testing, will be eligible for a free lunch on Friday, April 27th . This event is sponsored by the Timberwolf Foundation.
Daily Drawings: Students who exhibit focus and effort during testing will receive a ticket from their teacher to be placed in a daily drawing by the principal, Mr. Tockey. Prizes in the drawing include Five iPods and Ten $50.00 gift cards sponsored by the Timberwolf Foundation.
Celebration: To celebrate our students making it into “The Winner’s Circle,” CEHS has an incentive program for any student who receives Proficient or Advanced on the STAR or who improves their score by moving up a performance band.
In an effort to “KICK IT INTO HIGH GEAR” below are a few testing strategies for students:
* Eat a good breakfast.
* Be on time and alert.
* Answer easy questions first.
* Don’t let one question hold you back.
* Use care and caution when bubbling.
* Preview questions before reading a passage.
* Tackle one question at a time.
* Read all possible answers first before selecting.
* Re-check your answers
Parents please help by ensuring your student is at school on all testing days and make efforts to schedule medical appointments or other appointments on non-testing days. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
We look forward to celebrating the success of our students as we RACE TO AN API OF 835!
Go T-Wolves!
